First Gifts for The Buster

Here we have the first gifts for The Buster. The first gift with issue #1 was Buster's Balloon Beeper. Which was pretty much a balloon with a tube in it. The point of it was that when you blow it up then let it go, a whistling noise comes out.

Now, we have a gift that featured with issue 2 of Buster, Buster's Zoomer Jet. The jet was made out of card and you needed to self-assemble it. There is shoelace like string coming out of the bottom and the idea was that you run around, holding the string to give the idea that the jet was flying.

The Dandy Thunderbang

The Dandy Thunderbang came free with The Dandy comic many times over it's 75 year run and it was a very popular gift. You need a quick flick of the wrist to make a very loud bang. Yes, they do break after you've used them many times but with one I had; I just put it inside a heavy book. Though, I would have liked some instructions with it as when I used one for the first time I had no idea what I was supposed to do. If you would like one of these, I got one with The Beano and Dandy Silly Sing-along book - only £5 on the Dc Thomson shop.

Here, you can see Wallace and Gromit creator, Nick Park having a go with the Thunderbang. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p012wrj8

To starts off with, Shiver and Shake and The Beano!

For my first post, I will look at issue 1 of Shiver and Shake and issue 1 of The Beano.

The free gift with The Beano was a 'Whoopee Mask' which was pretty much a green mask. Only one is in existence and it, with the first issue, recently notched up a high price on ebay. At least back then many of the gifts were actually free.

Next, the Shiver and Shake issue 1 gift. You had a choice of 4 jokes which were, a fake spoon, a plastic buscuit, a rubber pencil and fake liquorice. I would have chosen the liquorice.

Thank you, soon I will be looking at many more free gifts. I hope you enjoy this blog.
